DeWALT Pancake Air Compressor (DWFP55126) Review

dewalt air compressor model DWFP55126

Not a Lawn Mower Tire Pump

We’re taking a look at the DeWALT Pancake Air Compressor model DWFP55126. This is a pancake air compressor and while you can use it as a portable air compressor, it might be a little heavier and more powerful than is necessary for everyday household use.

Introduction

It’s a bit of a throwback design but it’s functionality is full-on 21st century, taking on tasks like blast cleaning and spray-painting. It can even handle a pneumatic tool or two on a job site.

We’re going to check out the features of this DeWALT air compressor in detail so you’ll know what you’re getting for your money.

Keep in mind that our rating comes from looking through plenty of reviews and demos around the web in order to get a better overall feel for how it holds up over extended use.

We’ll cover the pros and cons so you can make a better buying decision.

Overall Rating

The first thing we like to do is give an overall rating. We’ll also discuss who this is best suited for and highlight some of its strengths.

DEWALT Pancake Air Compressor (DWFP55126) Our Rating: 3.75/5

While we feel the DeWalt  DWFP55126 is a fantastic product, it’s definitely not for everyone. Some of the features may be overkill for a household that needs a basic air compressor.

If you do, however, need all of the bells and whistles of this air compressor, by all means, give it a try. We’re betting that you won’t be disappointed as it has good power.

Some people have used it on jobsites and it doesn’t disappoint. The ratings and reviews we read in our research found this to be a winner time and again, but as we said before, if you’re looking for a tire inflator, this DeWALT is overkill.

Top Features

Here are the outstanding features of this DeWALT air compressor.

Lightweight and Portable

Keeping in mind that this isn’t a handheld air compressor that you would toss around like a half-gallon of milk, at thirty pounds,  it is lightweight in comparison to similar air compressors that push fifty pounds. It’s easy to get this up and running and you can move it around with you.

Put this air compressor on your shortlist if you need something lighter in weight that handle a jobsite workload.

Low Noise Level

While we’re not fans of anyone working without protective hearing gear, the DWFP55126 is pretty quiet for an air compressor. Yes, you’ll still be able to hear it and so will your neighbors, but they won’t be bashing down your door trying to get you to shut up. It’s pretty quiet for such a powerhouse.

DeWALT DWFP55126 Quick Summary

Before we dig deeper into this DeWALT air compressor, we want to just say that if you need an air compressor for weekend woodworking projects or a backup for a jobsite, you really can’t go wrong with this air compressor. We found that it holds air well overnight, is lightweight and has a quick recovery time.

If you’re looking for a simple tire inflator, you’re just wasting your money here. Not only that, it will take up more space in your home than a little tire inflator. Looking to store it will be like looking to store three ten-pin bowling balls that are stuck together.

Specifics

  • Power Source: Electric 120V

  • Capacity: 6 Gallons
  • Weight: 30 pounds
  • SCFM: 2.6  delivered @ 90 PSI

As you can probably tell, this is a great compressor for small contract jobs. You can move it on your own, it won’t bother the neighbors and will give you the power you need to get the job done.

We don’t recommend this for detailing cars. The six gallon capacity is simply too little for the amount of time you’ll need to run it. It’s really built for nail guns and other smaller power tools. The recovery time is fast enough to get through those types of projects.

We also recommend using a 50 foot hose. A 25 footer will make the thirty pound heft feel just cumbersome enough to be annoying by the end of the day.

Our Verdict

We recommend the DeWALT Pancake Air Compressor (DWFP55126) if you use a portable air compressor for powering pneumatic tools. It’s great for small contract work. The recovery time is fast and it isn’t super noisy so you can use it without annoying the locals.

It’s lightweight enough that you won’t dread getting it out and bringing it on the job. It’s reliable and is a very useful piece of equipment.
